What is GOOD leadership? - Latte and a Danish at Passio Coffee
I haven't written for a while but this wants to come out.
Every day it feels more and more evident that people in leadership positions in our societies and often times in our work places have no concern about the quality of lives of the people they serve. I don't think they actually feel they are supposed to serve anyone except for their own bosses. And their bosses feel the same. Again this is not everyone, there are some actual REAL leaders out there. That being said, what is a leader?
According to the Cambridge dictionary, a 'leader' is "a person in control of a group, country, or situation".
So my follow up question now is, what is a GOOD leader? And specifically, I would like to know Simon Sinek's opinion on what a good leader is.
I asked Gemini to give me Simon's opinion on it and this was the response: "Simon Sinek's definition of a good leader is someone who is able to inspire others, build trust, and create a sense of shared purpose. This is what he believes makes great leaders stand out from the rest."
This sounds pretty on point.
What if the supposed leader's main purpose is to make himself/herself look good to his/her superiors, does that inspire the team? Does it help to build trust within the team? Is it a shared purpose? I feel that the answers are all a hard NO.
When leadership is weak, this leaves a gap. And if the team is lucky, someone within the team will step up to fill this gap without any concern for recognition.
It might be true what they say. Power doesn't change people, it reveals who they really are at the moment.
