As we watch the team of astronauts approaching the moon, we may wonder why make the effort?

When asked, Commander Reid Wiseman clearly stated that the purpose is to eventually get humans on Mars.

My question would be: Ok but why go to Mars?  🚀

We are planning to move humans onto another planet without first finding a way to live sustainably on Earth. If we haven't learned the skill of living sustainably, then wouldn't we just re-create our disasters on other planets as well?

And would you honestly want to live on Mars? Take a few minutes and think about how life would be like on Mars, and you'll find yourself being SO THANKFUL that you now have the chance to experience life on Earth. You can walk around our planet Earth without a spacesuit, you can smell flowers on the side of the road, you can hear real birds chirping in the trees, you can smell delicious street food being cooked outdoors, you can swim in the ocean with your loved ones. On Mars, these things wouldn't exist anymore.
